R&D Photographs at the Red Brick Center for the Arts: The Red Brick Center for the Arts
R&D photographed Red Brick artists Charlotte Hess, Kate Howe, and Molly Peacock in their Aspen, Colorado studios, and are showing the resulting code-manipulated images in the West Gallery. R&D reconstructs the picture plane of the photographs, breaking the image into hundreds of blocks, and pushing some forward and some back in space. Each block becomes a discrete composition in itself, though at the same time it remains part of the larger traditional picture window view of a photograph. The work pushes on the boundaries of photography, bringing space as well as time into the composition.
Visitors to the West Gallery show will walk down the long corridor of the Red Brick Center for the Arts, which is currently filled with a group show of figurative work, including the paintings Kate Howe made during R&D photo sessions. They will be able to walk into Charlotte, Kate and Molly's studios and see the spaces R&D photographed before reaching the modified pictures of these artists and their spaces in the West Gallery at the west end of the building.
