A string is snapped across the drawing surface, leaving a feathery trace of charcoal. Measuring by eye, the artist intuitively continues working towards a harmonious composition. Intersecting lines are introduced to create minimal thread- like structures—“open rectangles”— that function, quietly, as windows on the thought process. Deepening her explorations, in some pieces color pencil, pastel, or archival gold and silver ink is carried across the surface with loose gestural strokes, bringing delicacy and immediacy to the artwork. The structural language of the Snap Chalk Drawings alludes both to mathematics and coding and to spiritual traditions in art and music, revealing the structure behind thought.
